Encouraged!!! (a
devotional message from Pastor Harvey)
The Lord asked Elijah the prophet when
he fled to a cave on Mount Horeb, "What are doing here?"
"And Elijah said,
"I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The
Israelites have rejeted your covenant, broken down Your altars and put
Your prophets to death... I am the only one left and now they are
trying to kill me too." 1 Kings 19:10
It can be a crushing, even depressing
experience to give your best and still fall short. Elijah was
discouraged with God's people. Thinking he had failed, he ran
from Jezebel and begged God to take his life.
Scripture tells us that "Hope deferred makes
the heart sick..." (Proverbs 13:12).
If you are like me, you have dreams for a better life for yourself,
your community, your church and your loved ones. Let's not get
caught up believing that we have to shoulder the burden of creating
change and revival. That's God responsibility!!!
We need to revisit the truth that without the cooperating work of the
Holy Spirit, no one can really change another person's heart.
Much of Elijah's discouragement came from the fals expectations
he placed upon himself.
As a result, Elijah withdrew into the cave. Today, God is Calling
His "Elijahs" out of the cave!!! He wants to give us fresh
revelation of the Holy Spirit's power and of who He is.
"Go
out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord
is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the
mountain apart and shattered the rocks, but the Lord was not in the
wind. After the wind came an earthquake, but the Lord was not in
the earthquake. After the earthquake was a fire, but the Lord was
not in the earthquake. Afterthe earthquake was a fire, but the
Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle
whisper....." 1 Kings 19:11-12
Elijah recognized the holy silence and "...pulled his cloak
over his face and stood at the mouth of the cave." (v13).
Today, may you walk in peace, humility and hunger to know Hi scharacter
and like Elijah you will see Him aws you have never seen before.
